Cleaning your siding is vital to your home’s maintenance. While pressure washing is a common method employed by homeowners to clean their siding, there are other ways to go about this task if you don’t have access to a pressure washer.

In this post, Spicer Bros Construction, Inc., your trusted siding and roofing contractor, discusses simpler methods of cleaning your vinyl siding.

Aerosol-Based Cleaning Solutions

One simple way of cleaning your vinyl siding without the help of a pressure washer is by spraying an aerosol-based cleaning solution onto the siding before scrubbing it with a brush. Once you’ve adequately scrubbed the siding, simply wash off the solution with water from a garden house.

Do keep in mind that this method has limitations, however, it only works in places you can actually reach, and aerosol cans aren’t cheap. This method is best for a quick clean on a single spot, especially if you have a two-story home.

Bleach Solution

Another alternative is to mix detergent, bleach, and water in a garden sprayer as a custom siding solution. This is an effective cleaner for siding that’s starting to grow mold and mildew. Once it’s applied, your siding and roofing company advises letting it stand for five to ten minutes before rinsing it off. Take caution with this solution, however, as bleach is a harsh chemical and can irritate your lungs when inhaled.

Vinegar Solution

The third alternative to pressure washing is a vinegar solution. All you’ll have to do is mix vinegar, baking soda and water in a bucket and scrub onto your siding to get rid of light mold and mildew stains. Wear gloves to prevent your hands from drying out. Once done, your vinyl siding should look as good as new.
